Review by art_vandelay

art_vandelay i suppose july 4 is considered the more "sexy" pick out of the two atlanta shows, but i actually prefer this show more (not that 7/4 was anything to sneeze about!). the tone was set immediately with a hell-raising version of "chalkdust", complete with top-shelf intensity in the jamming. the versions of "gumbo" & "tube" were sublime, and the jamming in "taste" hit my head like a battering ram. the second set rawked things out with "piper", "antelope", and a funky "moma dance", as well as lightening the mood with "contact" and fishman's "drummer boy" antics. the encore continued things in a light mood, and i was content enough leaving on that note....but then the boys came out for a second encore & meant business this time with "harry hood", which without a doubt was the icing on the cake. maybe i'm in the minority, but the 7/3 show gets the nod by me.....
