SET 1: Makisupa Policeman: Standard. ->

Harpua: So cool and so Phish that they picked up where the Clifford Ball left off with that unfinished version. No explanation, no nothing. Just awesome. >

Chalk Dust Torture: This sucker dives into those murky summer 97 depths in the early 7 minute range and gets very weird. I love it! They build the tension way up in this section and then have that typical CDT explosion – you know the one – this one is around 8 and half. But then instead of going for the lyrics, they go back into the jam basically. Pretty cool version would recommend it.

Theme From the Bottom: Another strong version from Summer 97 – but nothing stands out particularly for me, outside of the big wall of sound and feedback that dominates the ending and seems to go on for a long time >

Punch You in the Eye: Standard. >

Ghost: Really has it all – kind of encapsulates all that this tour was: plenty of funk, some upbeat stuff, and plenty of hard rocking. A very good version for sure, but the last three to three and half minutes – for me – are just a little too repetitive – has some 2.0 jamming aspects to it I guess? I would still recommend this Ghost. It’s good but it’s not great. It belongs on jamcharts. >

Ginseng Sullivan: Standard.

You Enjoy Myself: I enjoy the groove they find themselves in in the 14’s and beyond. Trey has that crunchy summer 97 tone working to full effect and Mike is backing him with the most liquid lines. When this jam peaks, it seems not everyone is quite on the same page. Seems a little off. Things drift off into a spacey place for a couple of brief minutes and then into a brief vocal jam. Good YEM but nothing I would actively seek out or recommend >

Train Song: Standard >

Character Zero: Face melter. Bong brah.

The Squirming Coil: Love this version.

SET 2: Wolfman's Brother: Very funky as you would expect until things start slowing down a good bit around 9 and half. Love the stuff Page is throwing down around 10 and a half. From here things get exceptionally pornofunky. By the 14 minute mark things seem to be stalling out a bit until 14:14 when things get lively and punchy once again and heavily leaning on that crunchy 97 summer style. At 17:35 Trey creates and builds a brilliant theme that continues to ramp up and lead the way into a fantastic segue ->

Simple: Having seen Bittersweet Motel way too many times, it’s so fun to listen back to this Simple and relay that to this particular movie scene with Trey just crushing it and then the super crunchy Odd Couple jam is great and the way it slides into My Soul is awesome ->

My Soul: Standard.

Jam: Quirky stuff after My Soul proper is over ->

Slave to the Traffic Light: So much whistling in the early part of the jam. Decent Slave. Just kind of uneven I suppose. Can’t seem to get everyone on the same page when it matters most. >

Rocky Top: Standard >

Julius: Absolutely destroyed, impressive!

SET 3: Halley's Comet: This sucker gets extremely edgy in the mid 9’s. A minute later Fish starts messing with the tempo. Accompanied by creepy lyrics over the top had to mess with many. Then Trey takes it into a happier place soon thereafter – kind of sort of – just as soon as it went easier on the senses it dives back into the darkness – then all of the sudden Trey is basically playing On Your Way Down – but after not too long he is steering the ship for… ->

Cities: Outstanding segue! Trey messing with the tempo throughout the lyrical composed section is fantastic! The jam starts off so, so slow. But all of the sudden it gets very aggressive and double timed! It stays this way basically throughout before getting very fast and then ->

Llama: This one goes beyond your typical Llama, diving deep into those murky Summer 97 depths. Awesome stuff and would surely recommend this version! >

Lawn Boy: Standard.

Limb By Limb: Around the late 8 minute mark this one seemingly is going to make a break for type II territory but that only lasts for 20 seconds or so? They definitely extend this one beyond what was typical for this era and as such, jamcharts worthy for sure. After Fish’s part at the end they build up a huge wall of sound! >

Funky Bitch: Crowd goes nuts for the fireworks!

Summary: Overall: What a show. It’s funny to me when in Bittersweet Motel they talk about set one being, a bad set. LOL. Not sure how they arrived at that conclusion, they would know better than me but it’s solid to my ears! But where this show really sets itself apart is the first 30 minutes of set two – some all-time moments there in that Wolfman’s Simple combo, just awesome. The first three tunes in set three are absolutely exceptional as well! This show is properly rated on Phish.net as 4.616/5 (401 ratings). It’s an incredible show.
